Palmse manor

Welcome! We wish you a pleasant tour of the historic buildings and the beautiful park!

The Palmse Manor complex has been considered one of the most beautiful in all of Virumaa for centuries.
This is the first manor in Estonia to be restored along with all of the buildings belonging to the heart of the manor, giving an excellent overview of the knightly manor that is characteristic of Estonia through the centuries.
A colourful history
Palmse (Palkemas) belonged to the St. Michael’s Convent in Tallinn from the 13th century until 1510, then to various owners and from 1677-1923 to the von der Pahlen family.
After the death of the last owner Gustav Christian von der Pahlen, the ownerless manor quickly began to fall apart.
From 1923 until World War II, the manor was used by the Defence League.
After World War II, pioneer camps took place in the manor in the summer.
Ongoing restoration
The restoration of the manor began after the establishment of Lahemaa National Park in 1971 and was a popular event in those circumstances.
The restored manor house opened its doors in 1986.
Since 2002, the Palmse Manor complex has been managed by the Museums of Virumaa Foundation.
Both the buildings and the park have been restored on a grand scale.
To this day, some buildings are restored every year and some new exhibitions are completed.
We wish you a pleasant tour of the historic buildings and the beautiful park!
