Storehouse

Typically, there was more than one storehouse in each manor: separate buildings for storing grain, vodka, meat and other assets.

Palmse also had a total of five storehouses, the largest of which had two floors and a carriage room in the middle.
The first storehouse was built on the south-east side of the manor forefield in around 1730 when the landlord was Arend Diedrich von der Pahlen.
Initially, it was not in its current location but was inside the fence surrounding the field and was made out of wood.

The current stone building was commissioned by Carl Magnus von der Pahlen in the early 1820s.
It was designed to hold both grain and vodka at the same time – when the grain bags were lifted through the front arch, the vodka barrels were rolled in from the back doors.
The building currently houses a souvenir shop and a theatre hall.
