Farm Labourer’s House

Landlords in Estonia began to use farm labourers or hired workers in the second quarter of the 19th century.
Farm labourers lived in a farm labourers’ house near the manor yard.

The farm labourers’ houses were dwellings with 4-8 (rarely 12) apartments.
The Palmse farm labourers’ house was probably built between 1796 and 1799.

It is an inn-type construction – a spacious stable at both ends (threshing floor), a mantle chimney in the middle – a kitchen with a scantling and smaller rooms.

The date 1831 above the kitchen door suggests a reconstruction at that time.

The building was restored in 2006 and now houses a restaurant and a tavern.

In addition, there is also a stable where the manor’s horses, ponies and hares live, which visitors can pet and feed.
